For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the Law of the Lord, and to do it, and to teach statutes and ordinances in Israel. (Ezra 7:10, NKJV)

Technology has provided us with an infinite amount of information at the tip of our finger, and in some cases in our packets, thanks to our Smartphones. However, as parents, teachers, or youth leaders we still face one major challenge, how to teach the Bible to our youth. In my experience I found AWANA Bible quizzing in local and regional events a useful tool to encourage clubbers to learn God’s Word. I continue to pray they will do what it says and pass these truths on to others as did Ezra. I found out to get the maximum benefit when the quizzing is coupled with a friendly competitive atmosphere. A worthwhile reward was a trip to our home’s indoor swimming pool or a water park after our club grew larger.

Our Youth today need to follow the example of Ezra in (1) seeking God’s Word, (2) doing it, and (3) teaching it to others (Ezra 7:14). Success demands commitment by clubbers, parents, and leaders. Many voices scream out for the attention of today’s youth. They must not be allowed to muffle the voice of God’s Word.

For Bible quizzing, they learned God’s truth,

Incentives helped motivate our youth.

As Ezra said, they must apply,

And to others then God’s words supply.

Without Bible knowledge and application, youth are likely to go astray.

  • What incentives have you offered to children to help do this?
  • What suggestions do you have to help youth apply Bible truth and teach it to others?
