PSALM 1: A PSALM OF TWO WAYS
But his delight is in the law of the LORD and in His law he meditates day and night (Psalm 1:2, NKJV)
As I continued reading and studying the Psalms, I truly enjoyed how our former Pastor Ken Hornok described Psalm 1.
Pastor Ken expanded on these 5 main points, Separation from the world, Situated on the water Saturated, Sanctified, and Satisfied by the Word of God.
The godly man enjoys His precious Word;
The ungodly spurns His way; ‘tis absurd.
Like a tree His truth shows the way.
Like useless chaff, ignorance leads astray.
Psalm 1 is the doorkeeper to the entire Psalter. Ryrie Study Bible notes, Psalm 1
Give examples of godly and ungodly behaviors and their consequences.
Prepare some creative skits or situations that illustrate these behaviors.
In the table below is my attempt to break down how I understand the 6 verses in Psalm 1 and how they speak about God, with godly behaviors and ungodly behaviors.
V.1 BLESSED=happy, joy, right relationship with God
v.2 Delights in all God’s counsel,
Meditates on His Word
v.3 Fruitful, obedient, productive life
v.6 God knows and approves the righteous
v.1 Tolerated sin
Increased friendliness with sin
v.4 Chaff, no place for God
End is not always observable
v.5 God will judge the ungodly
v.6 The ungodly will perish
