I trust you are doing well and looking forward to Sunday.
I love anniversaries. I love reflecting on events that happened years earlier. Some of them can be painful; like the 20 year anniversary of the terrorist attacks of 9/11, others are joyful; my 7-year-old grandson Nico Hornok was born on September 11, 2014.
68 years ago an article appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune dated September 11, 1953. The title of the article reads: Bible Church Sets First Services. The article reads in part: The first service of what will be known as The Murray Bible Church will be held at 7:30 p.m. September 13 in the Murray Fire Hall.
Pastor of the Murray Bible Church is Rev. John Hornok, a graduate of the Moody Bible Institute and formerly pastor of the Lake Region Bible Church in Round Lake, Illinois.
Murray Bible Church will be known as an Independent Church, unaffiliated with any denomination.
The Church will work in fellowship with the Independent Fundamental Churches of America whose headquarters are in Chicago, IL.
Now here’s the part I want to highlight: “The IFCA stands for the Bible as the very words of God, and that will be the stand of the Murray Bible Church.”
This coming Sunday we celebrate our 68th year as a church. Much has changed in our world. What has not changed and allowed us to continue strong for almost 7 decades is our commitment to the Bible as God’s Word. Additionally, we want to celebrate God’s faithfulness to us in becoming debt-free as a church. More than 20 years ago – let that sink in – Midvalley sold their building in Midvale and for 7 years operated in rented facilities as diverse as a storefront to a funeral home. Land was purchased and later a building was built incurring a debt of more than 1.7 million dollars – let that sink in! Today we are debt-free because of the faithfulness of God’s people and the grace and mercy of our God.
I was there 68 years ago as a 6-month-old baby when MBC began. Today, I serve as the pastor. I hope you will join me this Sunday as we celebrate God’s Faithfulness to us as a church! This Sunday we will sing, Great is Thy Faithfulness with fresh meaning and enthusiasm!
See you this Sunday in person or online
In the light of His glory and grace,
