PASS IT ON
Telling the generations to come the praises of the LORD, and His strength and His wonderful works that He has done. (Psalm 78:4 NKJV)
I know we all hear and have heard many comments regarding our younger generations, such as “The world is going downhill rapidly. The present generation is on a destructive path.” The media complex, the new explosion of social media accentuate these and similar comments from cynics which abound today. But here’s the big question we need to ask ourselves, what are we as Christians doing about it?
One organization I feel is among the most effective in trying to address and to a certain extent reverse or at least momentarily stop this present downward trend is AWANA Clubs International. Its purpose is well expressed in its pledge: “I pledge allegiance to the AWANA flag which stands for the AWANA clubs whose goal is to reach boys and girls with the gospel of Christ and train them to serve Him.”
Clubbers are presented with the opportunity to trust Jesus Christ after leaders explain what He has done for them. The mentor explains God’s great love for them, the payment for their sins by the death of Christ, and the results of accepting or rejecting God’s offer.
AWANA training includes memorizing Bible verses, Bible studies, prayer, involvement in a local church, and other ways to share one’s faith through club involvement and fun activities.
This approach mirrors the biblical training approach for Jewish children (Deuteronomy 6), the desire of David that future generations might know God’s truth (Psalm 78:4), the Great Commission of Jesus (Matthew 28:18-20), and the discipleship ministry of Paul in his epistles (2 Timothy 2:2).
Our lives are on a downward trend.
Only God’s truth can stop that end.
Each child must know about God’s plan
And be trained in His great love for man.
We are one generation short of extinguishing biblical truth.
