Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation. (2 Corinthians 6:2 NKJV)
Are deadlines important? What happens if you miss a deadline? The following example highlights the importance of a deadline, One day, the engineering department supervisor called one of his engineers into his office. He said, “Our company is working on a critical proposal. You have been selected to write an important section on materials testing. Your input is due five days from today at 4 PM.” The deadline passed and the required section was not delivered to his supervisor as required. Two days later the engineer brought the finished proposal section to his supervisor. The supervisor tossed the carefully prepared document into the waste basket: “It’s too late. The deadline has passed.”
This true incident reminds me of another deadline referred to in the Bible in 2 Corinthians 6:2, “Behold, now is the day of salvation.” Putting off the decision to trust Jesus Christ can have eternal consequences. Separation from God awaits those who fail to put their faith in God’s remedy for sin—our loving Savior Jesus—during their lifetime on earth. However, if we meet God’s deadline; then everlasting life, heaven, and the presence of God is ours forever (John 3:16; 14:1-3; Philippians 1:21).
Earth’s deadlines can bring temporal harm,
But to miss the deadline held in God’s arm
Gives eternal consequences that are sure.
Accept God’s gift now, a good fate to secure.
At physical death God says the deadline has passed.
